![]() Many people have asked me what's the best type of coach or therapist to choose when thinking about getting some external help, as there are so many different approaches out there it can be daunting to know where to start. I know, I have trained in many disciplines, such as humanistic & cognitive psychology, Nlp, Hypnotherapy, EFT, Emotrance, CBT, Reiki. and Kinesiology; when working with clients its important for me to be sure about which approach is going to work best for the client. For some clients using only one modality works best however for others I may combine and blend different approaches. What I have come to experience personally through my own journey is that the approach that always works best for me (and my clients) is the approach I "believe" will work, so ultimately if you "believe" it in it, then it most certainly will work for you. During my initial chat with all my clients I always ask them what they would like to achieve at the end of their time working with me; depending on how they respond will help me to understand how best I can use my skills as a practitioner to help them. Questions I encourage many of my clients to ask themselve's: 1. Am I looking for a pragmatic practical approach, that will help overcome current challenges and help me to create new solutions or changes to old behaviours? 2. Am I unsure and unclear about my problem? I know there is something wrong but just cant figure out what it is, I just keep coming up with these feelings that make me feel sad/unhappy/angry/lonely etc...? Which one did you feel more able to answer, or which one resonated most with you? If you resonated more with question one, then maybe a good approach for you would be a practitioner who uses a humanistic approach combined with mind based tools such as Nlp, cognitive psychology, CBT and Hypnotherapy for example. If You resonated more with question two, then finding a practioner who uses a humanistic approach who works with energy and different healing modalities such as Reiki, Emotrance, and hypnosis for example. If you resonated with both questions, then yes you guessed it, find yourself a good all round practitioner who has built up their skills and expertise in such a way that they are able to blend different approaches together. Along with asking yourself similar question's to those above, the best way to choose which approach would be right for you is to simply choose one that you have the most "belief" in. Ultimately there is no right or wrong approach, those that work will be those that you have the most faith in and believe will work for you. Choose wisely and trust your feelings!
