When starting out on the journey of being a Hypnotherapist or Coach it can be all to easy to get sucked into the idea that you must get yourself out there fast, or you must launch yourself or your product in some way, and keep launching and do what all the other therapists and coaches are doing. In fact, if you watch your news feed on FB or any other Social Media site, you will see numerous business coaches promoting their courses on "how to get clients quick" or "how to make money fast" or "how to launch your book in 30 days!"
When I see this stuff, I remember when I was starting out, and how I followed lots of these people, only to be sucked in by all the hype as a result of my own naivety and lack of confidence. Don't get me wrong there is some fantastic information and advice out there! However I believe this comes with a catch, because what happens when you start to follow these "models" slowly over time you lose your unique authenticity, you lose your voice and sometimes the very reason you decided to do what you do; and you work yourself into the ground until you finally burn out. Sometimes in extreme cases decide to give up. I have come close to this, and I also know several amazing, talented and inspiring coaches & therapists who have chosen to walk away from their passion as a result of "trying" to be something that others are suggesting they should be. Hypnotherapy is a creative process which flows from the heart, when you begin to trust this process and work from this place your work as a therapist takes on a whole new meaning for both you and the people you work with. Trust that this takes time, and cannot be rushed. For the longevity of your career as a Hypnotherapist I cannot stress enough the importance of your own authenticity, congruence and connection with the world. Allow yourself time, to nurture, develop and grow both you and your business as a therapist, and if that means you need a second income to prop it up for a few years until you are ready to go full time, then so be it. There is no shame in that, at least that way you won't spend thousands trying to be something that other people are telling you to be, or do something that isn't congruent with who you are as a therapist or coach. Think long term, think legacy, stay authentic and congruent, but most importantly do not fall into the trap of being the next "one hit wonder" therapist or coach only to find a year or two down the line it's over. Some lovely words of wisdom below to finish, from a young and talented women I know, who I believe has managed to avoid these traps. The article is very much worth reading! Love Avril :) x "Against the grain, taking her time, honoring exactly who she is and nothing else. Working only in her genius. Not allowing herself to be rushed by standard industry timelines of pushing an album every one or two years. She waits until her work feels beautiful and complete and something she is 100% proud of. I so, so love her style and relate to it. Great article on how she works differently, in her own way, and remains on top. Ladies and gentlemen... Adele."
